Bill Belichick would have called Marco Rubio to express his interest in the use of North Carolina

The man who is the current US Secretary of State would have helped to start the Bill Belichick moving process in North Carolina.

According to a detailed history of ESPN from the move from Belichick to the Tar Heels, the winner of the Super Bowl six times is friends with Marco Rubio and told Florida Senator when he would be interested in training in North Carolina. Rubio then contacted the Senator of Caroline du Nord Thom Thillis.

Of ESPN:

“Rubio follows the world of sport closely, and he called me and said to me:” There is a chance that Belichick would come to Chapel Hill “, told Tillis in Espn. “He said: ‘He wants a school with a great academic reputation, and he wants to try to build a program to bring them a national championship. I said:’ Well, let me leave [make some calls]. ‘”

Tillis hung up the phone and immediately called Phil Berger, the president of the North Caroline Senate Pro Tempore, who had solid links with UNC electric players. Berger initially laughed from suggestion until Tillis assures him that, yes, Belichick really wanted work.

Who has become the spark that lit the fuse, and shortly before, the Chase Belichick was a hell that rages among the main stakeholders, including [UNC board chair John] Prey. As a source said, “the push to disembark Belichick all started with politicians”.

The North Carolina hired Belichick in December to replace Mack Brown after the dismissal of Brown in November. Brown’s future had been a source of speculation for much of the 2024 season – he even told the team that he had left if he did not believe in him after a defeat against James Madison – while North Carolina was escaped an uneven season.

Brown was one of the three active coaches in university football who had won a national title and was in its second pass in North Carolina after having left the retirement to replace Larry Fedora. Now he is successful by the second coach to take a university football position after winning a Super Bowl.

Belichick also made sure to cancel speculation on a return to the NFL since he took the post of Caroline. Although his acquisition was returned to the NFL very easy after the 2025 season, he said during his introductory press conference that he had not come to North Carolina to leave and had gathered staff with a large experience.

But even if Belichick was so successful in the NFL, he does not guarantee that he will also transform North Carolina into a sustainable competitor. Although the university game can be as similar to the NFL as ever, there are still key differences. And how Belichick sails in these differences will determine the success of the success of North Carolina. We just won’t see how it goes through “hard blows”.
