Draymond Green said he only relayed what he had heard in second-hand when he commented on his podcast this week that the New York Karl-Anthony Towns center did not play against the Golden State Warriors because of Jimmy Butler’s presence.

Towns was registered Tuesday evening for “personal reasons” against the Warriors. The real reason he missed the match was due to the death of a family friend, Sarah Holtzman.
“It’s unfortunate, I’m sorry to hear that. It sucks,” said Green. “But my comments I made were, you know,” people, what I heard is it. “This is what I heard.
“It is inevitable, we all experience death in one way or another, and we all experience it in the same day. So, it is unfortunate, you will never wish it on anyone, but” The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis “must continue.”
Green said his comments refer to tensions between Butler and Towns while they were in Minnesota.
“Some would say that he did not play because Jimmy was in the building,” said Green originally. “I saw Kat’s pops in the match yesterday. I had an incredible love for the OG, his Pops are an incredible man. But yes, they say that Kat did not play because Jimmy came in town … I don’t know what was injured. I don’t look so deeply in it to know what his injury was or nothing like that.”
Towns joined the Knicks for the defeat of 113-109 Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers. He played 42:16 and recorded 12 points and 14 rebounds.
After the Knicks shooting on Thursday, Towns said he had to leave the team to be there for his family and “the children who lost someone really special for them”.
Towns has added that the losses he had suffered in recent years – several family members, including his mother, to COVVI -19 complications – have taught him to appreciate life.
“And the problems that occurred in my life and all that, I know that if people were in my place, they would be extremely happy to have the problems I have,” said Towns. “So stay focused and that made me a better man. And, with my mother, I used this experience with regard to this one because losing a mom is difficult.”
Green and Towns will meet on the field next week when the Knicks conclude their West Coast road trip to the Chase Center on March 15.
